CRAFTY PINT TOOTING MOVES TO THE GORRINGE PARK PUB!

We had a fabulous time at our first Crafty Pint outing to the gorgeous Gorringe Park Pub in June.

Coming up next in our summer programme in Tooting will be saucy summer postcards with Jane from Flaming Nora, willow weaving with Geraldine and screen printing cushion covers with Justine Ellis.

Saturday 3rd August – Willow weaving with Geraldine

Geraldine’s workshops were so popular at our Xmas Pint, that we have invited her back for an afternoon of making baskets and sculptures.  At our Xmas Pint, Geraldine showed people how to make stars and wreaths, at this three h0ur workshop, she will  show you how to make a choice of tray or a small basket as well as plenty of samples and doodles to help you learn different weaving techniques for your own projects.  We will work with prepared willow (soaked and mellowed); newspaper, and whatever plant leaves are available on the day and learn different techniques such as cordage, coiling, looping and basic basket-making.  At the end of the workshop you will come home with a choice of woven tray, willow ‘sunflower’ or fish, your own hand made string, plus whatever you turn it into.  Dirty hands and worn fingers an added extra!

Geraldine grew up with textile handy-work in a ‘make-do-and-mend’ sort of way.  She turned to making baskets, plus weaving, spinning and dyeing, in a moment of disillusion at the allotment – ‘How is it that weeds manage to grow so quickly and so well in next to no space?’ She organized a series of alternative workshops hoping to find some use for those dreadful weeds. The outcome has been a fascination with world-wide and age-old techniques of basket-weaving. Geraldine uses whatever natural material comes to hand – plus newspaper which comes in conveniently large quantities, very cheaply.

Saturday 7th September – Screen print a cushion cover with Justine Ellis

Join talented screen printer Justine Ellis for an afternoon learning how to create your own designs, make up screens and print up your own cushion to take home.  Justine Ellis is a London based printmaker and designer who specialises in original, hand screen printed, art and homewares.  Her designs have a bold, textural quality reminiscent of mid century textiles and ceramics. She will share her approach to printing, where each print begins life as a drawing or paper cut collage before being transfered into a silk screen print. Justine is also an experienced tutor having taught teenagers with special educational needs before finding her home within the inky world of screen printing and now she can be found teaching adults to screen print and designing and facilitating arts workshops for young people.

Bookings

The thee-hour workshops cost £20 and all materials and tutors are included.  We will provide tons of materials to choose from as well as lots of examples, one-to-one help and demonstrations. Places will be limited to ensure lots of assistance is on hand.  Suitable for beginners, no experience needed!  Please email Gillian at Crafty Pint to reserve a place.

Venue

The Gorringe Park is a beautiful, welcoming pub next to Tooting rail station and just a short walk or quick bus ride from Tooting Broadway. They serve a fab menu ranging from British tapas to yummy desserts and have lots of light, space and even a garden and a cinema. Ed and Josh have been very welcoming and are very keen to make the Gorringe Park community pub with lots of events for Tooting people to enjoy.

Saucy summer postcards with Flaming Nora – Saturday 6th July 2pm-5pm – Gorringe Park Pub

Join Flaming Nora for an afternoon of saucy stitchery!  We all know them, we titter at them, we all love them, now’s your chance to make  your own Saucy Seaside postcards.  Spend the afternoon mixing up collages of fabrics, trims and papers to make some old fashioned summery postcards.  They are fun to make and will have you sniggering all day long!  We will bring our collection of spots, stripes and vintage fabrics and trims as well as a selection of seaside images for you to choose from. Make one or a set! Send them to your friends or frame a cheeky pair for your wall.  Jane is an amazingly talented seam mistress, she makes costumes for west end theatre productions as well as her own fabulous creations.  She will have lots of nifty techniques and skills to share at this perfect summer workshop.

CRAFTY PINT AT WANDSWORTH ARTS FESTIVAL & FRINGE

Our last outing at Tooting Tram and Social will be a super duper free printing workshop, funded by Wandsworth Arts Festival!   As well as printing, we will have the   I’m A Piece Installation and workshop from the Craftivist Collective jigsaw project.

Saturday 5th January  – Make a calendar

Make a collage for each month from Fabric Nation’s collection of vintage books and magazines, rubber stamps, embossing and ephemera. Using blank calendar templates, create a beautiful and personal journal for the year. Expect lots of cutting, sticking, glitter and stamping!  Gillian will help you choose your favourite colours, recipes, stories and slogans and techniques for adding pictures, stamps, stickers and paint. Get messy and organised for 2013!

Saturday 2nd February – Valentines mosaic workshop

Lovely Concetta from Glittering Shards returns to Crafty Pint with her amazing mosaic workshop.  She will demonstrate her magical mosaic skills and show you how to make beautiful mosaic hearts. Perfect for sharing with a loved one or a treat for your self.

Saturday 2nd March – Decoupage and collage

Decoupage an ornament of your choice with collage queen and artist Amelia Critchlow.  Bring in a lampstand, frame, box, small table or magazine holder that you want to decoupage.  Amelia will provide imagery (wall-paper, maps, magazines, books), ideas and top tips on the skill of decoupage. Spend the afternoon cutting and collaging your chosen item to create a beautiful piece for your home. SOLD OUT!

Saturday 6th April – Make a tea cosy

Discover the delights of felting with Carol Grantham and make a beautiful tea cosy. Carol’s feltmaking workshops are fun and popular and we are very pleased that she is returning to Crafty Pint with a fabulous new workshop. Carol will show you all you need to know to make your own felted tea cosy.

Upcycled jewellery workshop with Jeni on Saturday 1st June.

 Our super popular upcycled Jewellery Workshop returns to Crafty Pint for it’s first outing in the Gorringe Park Pub! We will be turning unloved and broken trinkets into fabulous jewellery with talented local upcycler and artist, Jeni Walker who ran our sell out workshop at last years Xmas Pint.

At this workshop, we will make earrings, a bracelet, a necklace or a brooch from our amazing collection of discarded jewels.  Silver plated earring hooks and various stringing materials will be provided as well as our stash of pre-loved jewellery, beads and findings.  You will leave the workshop having made something from nothing!  You can even bring along your own unused and broken jewellery if you want, to make something particularly personal and cool. For inspiration have a look at what everyone  made at our last upcycled jewellery workshop.

Saturday 7th January – Stitch up a bow tie!

Choose from fabulous fabrics, silks and satins, velvets and cotton prints, stripes and spots to make your very bow bow ties. Learn different stitch techniques and finish with an adjustable bow tie clip. Can be used a belt, brooch, hairband, or even a bow tie! Perfect for cheering up January with a splash or colour and dash of style!  This workshop is £15 with all materials included. Email Gillian to book a place.

We are getting excited about Vicky’s shrinky jewellery workshop coming up in a few weeks.  Turn your drawings into fabulous jewellery, or even try your hand at making some Jubilee bling!

Saturday 2nd June – Jubilee workshop – make flags celebrating 60 years of British culture to wave and sweet rosettes to wear at your street parties.  Whatever you love about Britain, if it’s the Queen, her corgis, the NHS or bluebell woods, come and celebrate with a special Crafty Pint and make a flag that sums up your own jubilee.  In addition, we will have a selection of red, white and blue fabrics to make old fashioned rosettes inspired by the celebrations at the last diamond jubilee.  We will be playing music from the last 60 years, baking some special Jubilee cakes and will have a 60 years quiz.  For us at Crafty Pint, one of the most amazing things about Britain is the NHS, so we will be donating our profits to St. George’s hospital from this special Jubilee event.
