Handmade Nation Film Screening

Handmade Nation Film Screening – Wednesday 10th April – 7.30pm – The Railway SW16

Crafty Pint and The Railway Pub are very pleased to present a rare screening of Handmade Nation.   Handmade Nation documents the new wave of art, craft and design and is the feature film debut of director, author, artist and curator Faythe Levine. Levine traveled to 15 cities and covered more than 19,000 miles to interview artists, crafters, makers, curators and community members in their studios and homes, giving the public an exclusive and rarely seen look into the lives of these creative individuals and the craft revolution sweeping the nation.

Twenty-four artists from Olympia, Washington to Providence, Rhode Island, and everywhere in between show their work and discuss their lives, including papercut artist Nikki McClure and Sublime Stitching’s Jenny Hart.  Levine’s film shows how they have forged a new economy and lifestyle based on creativity, determination, and networking and captures today’s craft world as it emerges as a synthesis of historical technique, punk culture, and the diy ethos, also influenced by traditional handiwork, modern aesthetics, politics, feminism and art.

Thanks to the generous support of  The Railway, the film screening will be a free event!  And Crafty Pint will donating crafty goodies and books for a handmade raffle on the night as well!  Join us for an evening of film, drinks, popcorn and chat about what we love about the handmade movement, creating and making, and everything else in between!

If you would like to find out more or reserve a seat or table, please email Gillian at Crafty Pint. Places are free, but pre-bookings get a free entry into the raffle and popcorn!
