Tooting’s Spring Festival….
We celebrated Spring with the lovely people of Brick Box yesterday. Nestling among the cooing chicks, seedlings and rose bedecked trees in the middle of Tooting Market, our Crafty Pint taster sessions were popular among passersby of all ages who rummaged through our fabrics and created beautiful brooches with Fabric Nation and painted ceramics with Cara. We loved seeing the joy on small boys faces as they pinned their newly made flower brooches onto their tee-shirts and the glee of a little girl who had been transformed into a butterfly by Cara’s face painting skills.
We met talented local makers and designers who had set up pop-up shops, including the Cheeseypleasey duo selling yummy cheeses from their Welsh homelands, the talented Ellen Monaghan, jewellery designer and kitsch card maker Saima Majid.
Regular traders were also there, including Kris, the Lone Fisherman with delicious homecooked Caribbean food and his own line of fresh pepper sauces, the amazing Susan who can transform any fabric into a beautiful tailored dress and Tea Party Cakes with their very tasty salty caramel brownies.
We entertained all day by poetry, sound baths, cooing chicks serenading the butchers, music, the Brick Box cafe exhibitions and are looking forward to more today, including THE BUREAU OF SILLY IDEAS The official launch of the Campaign for a Pie Throwing Event for the 2012 Olympics and the THE PORTABLE IDEAS LIVE ARTS COLLECTIVE as well as free Crafty Pint taster sessions and mono-printing. Come along and celebrate May Day Tooting-style!
