Wednesday 12th June – Craftivist Collective’s I’m A Piece Project
We are very pleased and excited to be part of the I’m a Piece tour and will be hosting the installation with a special evening of Craftivist projects and a short talk about the project and craft activism. People from all around have contributed over 700 hand stitched jigsaw pieces (including our own Flaming Nora!). This evening will be a chance for your to add your own piece of the jigsaw to the project.
This amazing collaboration between the Craftivist Collective, Save the Children and the craft community is touring the UK to support Save the Children’s Race Against Hunger Campaign. This is what they say about the project..
“Life is like a puzzle, it all seems a mess but when it gets finished it looks brilliant. This project aims to show that we are all connected and our actions make a difference. There is no one solution to the problem of injustice but we can all play a part in a movement for change. We are supporting Save the Children because, as well as being a conscious consumer, this is a vital time to effect long-term change through campaigning and meeting your MP. We can’t miss this opportunity.”
You can read more about the unveiling of I’m a Piece here and here.
This will be a very special evening and we hope you can join us for an inspiring evening of Craftivism. Instead of this month’s workshop fee, you are free to make a donation to Save the Children.
I’m a Piece comes to Streatham

We will be knitting this Monday!
Join the lovely, talented Alex and knit your own phone cover at Ben’s Canteen in Clapham this Monday (13th May). These cute knitted cases are perfect projects for beginners, or for knitters with a bit more experience to learn new stitches. Find out what you can do with simple variations of knit and purl stitches! The finished items are versatile enough to be used as phone or camera covers or anything else you need to keep snug in your bag.
First of all, pick your fave colours….
Then choose one of our designs, from a simple knit stitch to more fancy rib and moss stitches. All of these are suitable for beginners, and for more experienced knitters, we can experiment with stitches needing more skill.
Then embellish with vintage buttons and pom poms!
Our tutors will demonstrate how to cast on and the basic stitches for your phone case. We will be on hand to help you trouble shoot any problems, and you get to knit while enjoying a glass or two of Ben’s finest wines, yummy food, and meet your crafty neighbours. Alex is a very talented fine artist who we met during Lambeth Open Studios. When she is not painting, she loves to knit, so we are very pleased to have her join us.
These three-hour workshops costs just £20 and include tuition, examples, inspiration and lots of materials to choose from. All materials are supplied, and knitting needles will be available to buy if you want to take them home. We go out of our way to make sure you have lots of choice so you can play and experiment with a range of materials that you may not have access to at home. We ensure our groups don’t get to big, and always have enough tutors to provide one-to-one help as well as group demonstrations.
Please email Gillian at Crafty Pint if you want to reserve a place, or just drop in and join us on the day.
