We have a fabulous programme lined up at The Railway, if we say so ourselves! Our Spring and Summer programme includes jewellery making, craft activism and needle felting. Then come the Autumn, we will be learning to knit phone covers, printing tea towels and and making xmas decorations, topping it all off with a special Xmas Pint in December. Meet your crafty neighbours at our informal and sociable workshops and come home with something handmade by you in Streatham!
These three-hour workshops costs just £20 and include tuition, examples, inspiration and lots of materials to choose from. We go out of our way to make sure you have lots of choice so you can play and experiment with a range of materials that you may not have access to at home. We ensure our groups don’t get too big, and always have tons of space to spread out and enough tutors to provide one-to-one help as well as group demonstrations.
The Railway is a very friendly pub with a great selection of Old World wines, a fine array of European beers and London brewed ales, incldung Sambrooks, Redemption and Meantime. At Crafty Pint we often treat ourselves to their very fine food made with locally sourced, seasonally informed produce. Yum!
You can drop in on the evening, or if you would like to reserve a place, please email Gillian at Crafty Pint. Pre-bookings get entered into the Crafty Raffle for a haberdashery goody bag!
Wednesday 8th May, 7.30pm – Upcycled Jewellery Workshop
The queen of upcycling, Jeni Walker, will be showing us how to turn junk into treasure. Grab a handful of junk trinkets and turn it into cool contemporary jewellery with local artist and up-cycler Jeni. Feast your eyes on our treasure trove of jewels and with top tips from Jeni, turn them into original necklaces, earrings, bracelets and brooches.
Wednesday 12th June – Meet the Craftivists & I’m A Piece Installation
We are very pleased and excited to be part of the I’m a Piece tour and will be hosting the installation with a special evening of Craftivist projects and a short talk about the project and craft activism.
This amazing collaboration between the Craftivist Collective, Save the Children and the craft community is touring the UK to support Save the Children’s Race Against Hunger Campaign. This is what they say about the project..
“Life is like a puzzle, it all seems a mess but when it gets finished it looks brilliant. This project aims to show that we are all connected and our actions make a difference. There is no one solution to the problem of injustice but we can all play a part in a movement for change. We are supporting Save the Children because, as well as being a conscious consumer, this is a vital time to effect long-term change through campaigning and meeting your MP. We can’t miss this opportunity.”
People from all around have contributed over 600 hand stitched jigsaw pieces (including our own Flaming Nora!). You can read more about the unveiling of I’m a Piece here and here.
This will be a very special evening and we hope you can join us for an inspiring evening of Craftivism. This month’s workshop fee will be donations to Save the Children.
Wednesday 10th July – Felting with Carol
Discover the delights of felting with Carol Grantham . Carol’s feltmaking workshops are fun and popular and we are very pleased that she is returning to Crafty Pint with a fabulous new workshop (you can see photos of Carol’s last workshop here). Carol will show you all you need to know to make your own felted textiles, sharing her skills and knowledge of this lovely textile art. Carol has just recently returned from a trip to visit textile workshops in Rajasthan and Gujarat, so we are looking forward to hearing more about what she learnt there!
This will be a fun and messy workshop, lots of soapy water and vigorous action as well as creative surprises! Carol will bring natural fleeces in an array of different colours and demonstrate basic and decorative felting techniques as well as how to transform your felt into a tea cosy. You can see what we made at Carol’s last workshops here! We have lots of wonderful colours for you to choose from…
