We are very lucky to have lovely Tamsin from IwishIwasa this month to show us all how to make marvellous masks.  A regular at Crafty Fox Market in Brixton, Tamsin’s masks are popular among adults and children and are great for parties, halloween, or just for dressing up or for when you need a disguise!

At this workshop, you will learn how to create an elaborate mask for yourself or a child to wear trick or treating, to a Halloween party or just to wear when you fancy playing super heros!  You will have the option to design and make one of  the following:

(1) A Lucha Libre (Mexican wrestlers’) mask.  This is a full head covering mask made from stretchy lycra in a range of colour options. Decorate and embellish your mask  using a range of materials & techniques including: various fabrics, feathers, applique & even add some 3D elements.

(2) A decorative eye mask.  Wear to a masked ball, be a superhero or when you need a cunning disguise.  Create a mask which covers your eyes and part of your face.  Using a range of materials & techniques including: PVC vinyl, feathers, sequins, hand stitching, and applique.

You can use ready made design ideas or learn how to develop your design from inspiration through to characterisation.  Tamsin will provide materials including: lycra, PVC vinyl, elastic, felt, fabric scraps, feathers, sequins, and buttons. Participants will come away with a finished mask ready to wear!

Tamsin trained in textile design, specializing in embroidery.  After graduating she went on to work as a costume designer & maker in theatre, film, music videos & commercials.  She now runs iwishiwas, creating original & bespoke dressing-up pieces for children and adults and teaching workshops in sewing and costume making.

This workshop costs £15 and includes all materials and cakes.  Please email Gillian at Crafty Pint if you want to reserve a place, or you can pay in advance using Paypal.

This workshop takes place at the brilliant  Tooting Tram & Social, 46-48 Mitcham Road, London SW17 9NA.

We will have lots of space and tables to spread out on over the ground floor of the pub. The pub is not busy with people drinking during the day, and is very suitable for children during our workshops, who always have lots of fun when they come along. The bar is open with the lovely, friendly Tram staff serving beer, wine and soft drinks.
